This 1748 engraving illustrates the growth and fortifications of ancient Rome from the reign of Servius Tullius (578-535 BC) to its sack by the Gauls in 387 BC. During Servius Tullius' rule, Rome expanded significantly, with the construction of new ramparts, moats, and walls. The enclosed territory was divided into four administrative regions: Suburana, Esquilana, Collina, and Palatina. The engraving was printed in London by T. Osborne, A. Miller, and J.
