Facsimile of the 1906 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Fresno, California, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. It covers the whole city, from the stores, hotels and Court House of I, J and K Streets and the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe depots, through the raisin and fruit packing houses along the tracks, to the residential streets out to Belmont and Blackstone Avenues, the Fair Grounds and Recreation Park, with fourteen outlying sheets for the wineries, vineyards and packing houses of the country round, from Fruitvale and Minnewawa to Malaga.

The one hundred thirteen numbered sheets work block by block from the stores, banks, hotels and theatres along I Street, J Street, K Street, H Street, Mariposa Street and Tulare Street - the Fresno County Court House and Jail in Court House Square, the City Hall and Public Library, the Armory Hall, the Barton Opera House, the Empire, Novelty and Chinese theatres, the Masonic Temple, the Elks Lodge, the Grand Baths, the Fresno National Bank, Republic, Improvement Company's, Griffith, Helm, Fiske and Forsyth buildings, the Edgerly, Hughes and Pioneer blocks, the Grand Central, Fresno, Sequoia and Boscongado hotels and the Y. M. C. In 1906 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Fresno for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the city at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.
