Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

photos, illustrations, (46)p. Softcover in original wrapper. 28 cm. Modest cover soil and rubbing. Front cover has a visible tear on the bottom edge of the leaf-shaped cutout. Rose Meta House of Beauty was a large beauty parlor for African American women in New York City. It was regarded by many as the biggest and best beauty parlor for African Americans in the United States. Rose Morgan was born in Mississippi and grew up in Chicago and became a talented beautician. Olivia Stanford was born in Virginia as Olivia Lee Dilworth and was Olivia Clark when she partnered her skin care knowledge with Rose's hairdressing genius. Olivia, now Stanford rather than Clark, sold her one-third interest in the business around 1955 when she and her third husband decided to move to the Virgin Islands. Morgan renamed the business as Rose Morgan's House of Beauty and married Joe Louis. The marriage was annulled three years later. Hair styles changed and Morgan sold or closed the business in the 1970s. Eighty-nine employees of Rose Meta House of Beauty are individually pictured, most sixteen to a page, in this program which also contains information about the show, beauty tips and lots of advertisements. OCLC does not list any Rose Meta Programs. We don't know how long these shows continued but this is an impressive program.
