Preston Gralla is an award-winning author of 19 books that have been translated into 14 languages, including Online Kids, A Young Surfer's Guide to Cyberspace, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Protecting Your Child Online, and How the Internet Works. He's also written for many major newspapers and magazines, including USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, Family Life, FamilyPC, the Boston Globe, and the Dallas Morning News. He appears regularly on many TV and radio shows and networks, including the CBS Early Show, CNN, National Public Radio's All Things Considered, MSNBC, and CNBC.
Preston started volunteer work when he was a teen in Spring Valley, New York, helping organize a Walk for Hunger, and has continued his volunteer work through the years. He has two children: Mia, who at age 15 is every inch a teen; and Gabe, who at age 11 is just beginning to eye teenhood. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with his wife Lydia, two children, and a rabbit named Polichinelle.
Teens generally volunteer their time because they want to-- even with high school and college requirements. But teen idealism, joined with youthful energy and enthusiasm, often isn't enough to make volunteering the best experience possible. Teens (and their parents) often need guidance. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Volunteering for Teens features tips and advice for finding out what's available, how to find the opportunities, what will be expected and what are the next steps if volunteering becomes more than a part-time activity.
