Gustav Davidson (1895 1971) was an American poet, writer, and publisher. He was a one-time secretary of the Poetry Society of America. He was born in Warsaw, Prussia (now Poland). In the wake of anti-Jewish pogroms in Prussia, his family fled to the United States, settling in New York City in 1907. Davidson received bachelor's and master's degrees at Columbia University in 1919 and 1920 respectively. He worked for the Library of Congress in 1938 and 1939 and became executive secretary of the Poetry Society of America from 1949 to 1965 (after which he was elected executive secretary emeritus). He is best remembered as the author of this work: A Dictionary of Angels: Including the Fallen Angels, detailing the types of angel classes and their roles. This was a compendium of angelology from Talmud, kabbalah, medieval occult writers, gothic grimoires and other sources. It has become a cult classic. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; xxxii, 387 pages.
