Educational assessment serves many purposes — selection for further education and employment; monitoring the performance of educational systems; providing diagnostic feedback on the processes of learning. I liked the way the book is organised. The well-written summaries preceding each of the four parts and the unusually substantial overviews provided by a foreword and afterword give a coherence and narrative flow to the content often lacking in books on thematic conferences.
