Translated byJeffery C. Kinkley. Black and white photographic plates, 276pp, index, dustjacket, a very good hardback copy. "Biography of well known journalist, novelist and translator. Of Mongolian origin, he was born in a Peking slum in 1910, orphaned by the time he was 10, started work in a publishing house while still at school, and imprisoned for his political demonstrations when still only 15. In the 1930s his career as a writer began and he travelled in Europe, which led to his friendship with many well known European writers of the period including E.M. Forster and Arthur Waley. After the Second World War his work as a war correspondent took him to France and Germany with the US Seventh Army, to San Francisco to cover the founding of the UN, Berlin to cover the Potsdam Conference and later he covered the Nuremberg War Trials before returning to China."
