Prior to the '90s, joint time-frequency analysis (JTFA) had been confined to academic research because of the complexity of the algorithms and the limitations of computing power. But later progress in the area of JTFA and the PC technology have dramatically expanded JTFA applications.

Joint Time-Frequency Analysis: Methods and Applications is separated into three parts. Part I reviews classical signal analysis fundamentals for JTFA. Theoretical developments are presented in Part II. Well-known time-frequency algorithms and two proven JTFA algorithms (time-frequency distribution series and adaptive spectrogram) are introduced and their pros and cons are also addressed. Part III discusses three real JTFA applications in the areas of radar image processing, biomedical signal analysis, and economy data analysis contributed by experts in their respective fields.
