Sinossi
The Cowards (1958) è il racconto comico e nero di Josef Skvorecky sulla politica del dopoguerra che fu immediatamente vietato alla pubblicazione. Nel 1945, a Kostelec, Danny suona il sassofono per la migliore jazz band della Cecoslovacchia. Il loro trombettista è appena uscito da un campo di concentramento, il loro bassista è ammesso nella band solo perché è il proprietario del basso e l'amore della vita di Danny è innamorato di un'altra. Ma Danny si dispera di più per i patrioti borghesi della sua città che giocano alla rivoluzione di fronte all'avvicinarsi dell'Armata Rossa, non da ultimo perché rovina le possibilità della band di fare buoni concerti.

Informazioni sull'autore
Josef Skvorecky (born in 1924) was a leading Czech novelist and dissident, a key figure in keeping alive from exile a liberal, humanistic Czech culture during the Cold War. His most famous novels are The Cowards, Miss Silver's Past, The Bass Saxophone and The Engineer of Human Souls. He died in 2012, at the age of eighty-seven.
