Sinossi
L'Ancien Régime e la Rivoluzione è un paragone tra la Francia rivoluzionaria e il dominio dispotico che ha rovesciato. Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859) è un osservatore obiettivo di entrambi i periodi, fornendo una critica spietata dell'ancien régime, con la sua venalità, oppressione e disuguaglianza, ma riconoscendo le riforme introdotte sotto Luigi XVI e sostenendo che lo stato post-Rivoluzione era per molti versi tirannico quanto quello del Re; i suoi ideali un tempo elevati ed egualitari corrotti e dimenticati.
