Marilyn Butler is King Edward VII Professor of English Literature at Cambridge University. She is also the author of Jane Austen and the War of Ideas (Clarendon Press, 1975), Maria Edgeworth: A Literary Biography (Clarendon Press, 1972), Burke, Paine, Godwin and the Revolution Controversy (ed.) (C.U.P., 1984), and a biography of Peacock.
