The text is that of the first English book edition with the more important corrections and revisions from the serialization of the novel in Longman's Magazine given in the Explanatory Notes. This book is intended for students of nineteenth-century popular fiction. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting.
