The most substantial contribution to its study this year is John Blair's The Church in Anglo-Saxon Society, the immensely wide-ranging and thought provoking result of many years' work. Both the scope and detail of his discussion will provoke more new work on aspects of the wider topic. (The Years Work in English Studies)
