Do rural cooperatives work? If they do, can their success be replicated in other areas? Who benefits from these organizations? This work examines these questions using case studies of cooperatives at the grass-roots level in Asia and Africa. It examines the organization and conditions under which these groups succeed, touching on the effect of government policies on cooperatives.
