Taking a few common polymers as examples, this book illustrates clearly the basic principles of polymer science. It looks at the factors which give rise to the special properties of polymers, and emphasizes how the properties of the bulk material can be tailored by synthesizing molecules with a particular size and architecture.

A set of exercises at the end of each chapter will enable the reader to test levels of understanding and hopefully, improve them. Suggestions for further reading are also offered.
