This study is concerned with microprocessor-controlled power electronic drives, focusing primarily on the control and use of low and medium-power motors. Such drives have applications in the motion control of robots, computer peripherals and numerically controlled machines. The text deals with the relationship between computers, power circuitry and motors. Chapters cover AC to DC converters, servo-amplifiers, stepping-motor drives and inverters. The author includes a unique theory on the pulse-width modulation technique for inverters, as well as a method for position control using a DC motor.
