The study of EC law is of central and growing importance within the UK and beyond. All areas of the law, ranging from competition to discrimination, are affected by developments in Europe. The book reflects this very centrality of Community law.
It combines the benefits of a text, with those of a cases and materials book. The case law of the ECJ is placed within a conceptual context provided by the authors' text, and materials drawn from diverse sources are integrated into the discussion so as to enrich the analysis. Developments in legal doctrine are related to broader political and institutional changes within the Community as a whole.
The book has been designed so as to be able to meet the needs of a variety of courses. There is detailed coverage of both the institutional and substantive law of the Community. This enables it to be used for a course which is purely institutional, for one which contains a blend of institutional and substantive law, or for more specialist courses on particular aspects of Community law, such as sex discrimination or competition. The book has been written as the primary work through which to study the subject, but it can also be used as an accompaniment to an existing text.
