Excerpt from Sacred Maxims: Collected During Thirty Years, From the Discourses of the Late Rev. William Borrows, M.A., Minister of St. Paul's Chapel, Clapham
These Maxims possess, generally, that stamp Of originality, which those who knew their Auter will at once discern; and to such persons this brief remembrancer of his admirable powers will have an additional interest. But all who under stand the nature Of experimental religion, will, it may reasonably be anticipated find here an abun dant treasury of valuable and searching truths. Mr. Borrows always spoke from the heart to the heart: consequently in these sentences his pointed appeals may safely be left to commend themselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God: for it is a maxim nothing less than divine, that As in water face answereth to face, so doth the heart of man to man.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book reveals the personal anecdotes and devout ideas of a Christian minister in the form of collected maxims. His profound insights into the human condition and his deeply personal relationship with Jesus Christ are the cornerstones of his teachings, which observe the frequent disjunction between Christian profession and practice, expressing the need for closer alignment with the teachings of Christ. His observations of the world around him both in the church and in secular society offer a chastening and sobering view of human nature, while holding up the example of Jesusâs life and sacrifice as a true and saving grace. The authorâs faith shines through each maxim, inviting the reader to seek a more pure and holy life. Ultimately, the value of this book lies in its ability to simultaneously convict the reader of their own failings, and offer hope and guidance toward a path of redemption.
