Mais même dans les Algues la fécondation, en général, n'apparait pas régulièrement, et souvent elle semble seulement la conséquence de certaines circonstances extérieures la multiplication assurée pré domine. Dans les végétaux terrestres, les Mousses et les Cryptogames vasculaires l'acte sexuel reparaît périodiquement; de là une alter nance de génération beaucoup plus régulière que dans les Algues; en même temps la propagation végétative devient moins importante, ce qui fait prévoir déjà le rôle très subordonné auquel elle se trouve ré duite dans les végétaux supérieurs.
