Dono all'e. V. Questa mia fatica della Nautica, e mi piace di seguir Virgilio. Cosi nella dedicazione, come mi sono ingegnato e sfor zato d'imitarlo, per quanto m' è stato concesso, nella composizione. Dedico' egli la Georgica al suo Mecenate, e io dedica la Nautica al mio. Che tale è a me i' E. V. Per li molti e gran beneficii ch' ella confe risce in me tutto il giorno. Se l' opera non sarà indegna di lei, più go derò dell'aver fatto cosa, mediante la quale io mostri il desiderio che ho d' onoraria e servirlo che per quel si voglia utile o fama che indi me ne potesse venire. Le bacio con Ogni riverenza le mani, e con l'au gurio della Nautica, le prego prospera e seconda navigazione per lo tranquillissima pelago della felicità e della beatitudine di Guastalla sua.
