Los grandes y continuos esfuerzos, que actual mente se hacen dentro y fuera de la América, para conservarla uncida al yugo de la Curia Romana, muestran palpablemente lanecesidad de dara acono cer y desacreditar las pretensiones de ésta, no ya con difusion y en muchos volúmenes, sino de una manera abreviada que no omitiendo cosa alguna de lo que sea necesario, instruyan los lectores sin fastidio en un Compendio. Tal es el objeto que me he pro puesto, al componer el volúmen, que tengo el honor de presentar a los Amer 1canos.
