Excerpt from Letters on the Trinity, and on the Divinity of Christ: Addressed to the Rev. William E. Channing, in Answer to His Sermon "on the Doctrines of Christianity"
The word of God, and reason, and experience, are all in oppo sition to the thought, not unfrequently entertained, of a very great change having taken place in the disposition ofmen to wards Christian truth, and towards those who faithfully proclaim it, in comparison with that manifested in the time of the Apostles. The enmity of the carnal mind - that is, of every mind unre newed by divine grace - remains the same. It may not be carried to the same extent in the outward exhibition of it, nor embodied in thesameforms. Still, now, asformerly, itis true that there isapowerful spirit of oppositionwthe Gospelamongrtmen amongst professing Christians - even amongst the inhabitants of England, of Scotland, and of this City. The result also must he the same. As the Apostles were suspected, insulted, pene cuted, - the same, with the limitations before described, must be the portion of every man who sets before his fellow-creatures, as he did, the fearful depth of their natural depravity - the number and aggravation of their actual sins - the condemnation to which.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book closely examines the concept of the Trinity as set forth in the Bible and as understood, believed, and defended by Trinitarians. The author begins by clearing up misconceptions surrounding the doctrine, demonstrating that it is fully compatible with the idea of the divine unity. Moving on to the divinity of Christ, the author argues that the idea of Christ as fully God, and fully man, is central to understanding his mission as the incarnate mediator between humanity and God. Finally, the author delves into the nature of the Holy Spirit, arguing that he is not simply an impersonal force, but a real, intelligent, and personal agent. In all, this book provides a thorough and compelling examination of the Trinity from a Trinitarian perspective, clarifying misconceptions and helping readers better understand this essential Christian doctrine.
