Tout ce qui précède constitue ce qu'on peut appeler, dans le sens étroit et spécial des termes, l'histologie du système nerveux des Arthropodes. D'autres études sont venues compléter les précédentes; ce sont des études d'anatomie microscopique, qui ont pour but la description des organes contenus dans les ganglions, le trajet des nerfs dans ces ganglions, et le groupement des cellules Ces recher ches d'anatomie microscopique n'ont jamais pris autant d'extension que celles d'histologie; elles n'ont guère été faites jusqu'ici que sur les Vers, et quelques Crustacés; en ce qui concerne les Insectes, on n'a fait l'anatomie que de leur cerveau; l'examen des ganglions de la chaine ventrale reste à faire.
Il résulte de ces quelques indications sommaires que nous pou vons, en retraçant l'historique de nos recherches, le diviser en deux parties bien distinctes l'une portera le nom d'histologie, l'autre celui d'anatomie microscopique.
