Nos textes contribuaient a former, qui le plastron, qui les chaus sures, qui le masque de carton; etc., des momies d'où ils sont extraits; il y a donc parmi eux beaucoup de fragments, dont cer tains heureusement se complètent; un cas remarquable est celui de 4, constilué par la réunion de fragments qui proviennent de deux momies diiférentes; mais la proportion des textes entièrement ou presque entièrement conservés est relativement considérable. Tous sont écrits au recto du papyrus dans le sens de la longueur, perpen diculairement aux fibres et sans colonnes; quand ils sont complets, ils se présentent donc a nos yeux sous la forme de longues bandes de papyrus, souvent assez étroites; la longueur maxima est de 33 cent.; la hauteur varie avec l'importance du texte il est très rare qu'au-dessous d'un texte complet, il y ait un espace supérieur a celui qu'exigent deux ou trois lignes d'apostille; 28 (pl. IX) est exceptionnel à cet égard; la hauteur est en moyenne de 10 a 15 cent. Pour les textes les plus longs, elle atteint 22 cent. (5, d'ail leurs rogné dans sa partie inférieure et sans apostille) et 23 cent. (14, dont la longueur est assez faible 27 la feuille de papy rus est partout d'une seule pièce, sauf dans 14, qui est formé de deux longues bandes, dont l'une très étroite, rapportées selon leur longueur.
