Il n'y a point lieu d'être surpris de rencontrer ici quelques apercus d'ordre éminemment général, qui eussent trouvé au début du cours DE composition une place tom aussi légitime l'expérience montre que le lecteur, qui nous a suivis depuis ce début, est maintenant beaucoup plus apte à en pénétrer toute la portée. Or, nous n'avons point d'autre but que l'enseignement méthodique de ce qui a trait à la Composition musicale; et les nécessités de la méthode nous ont déjà contraints à certaines transpositions, ainsi qu'on a pu le voir notamment à pro pos des motifs cycliques ou conducteurs, dont plusieurs ont été em pruntés, par avance, à des oeuvres qui appartiennent aux matières trai tées dans le présent volume (i). Un rapide aperçu de ces matières fera prévoir l'opportunité d'autres transpositions analogues ou corrélatives, qui se rencontreront au cours des six chapitres qui vont suivre.
