Excerpt from The Present State of Ecclesiastical Architecture in England
HE revival of our ancient parochial church architecture is a subject which occupies much attention at the present time; after three centuries of demolition and neglect, the solemn structures raised by our Catholic ancestors are being gradually restored to somewhat of their original appearance, and buildings which but a few years since were considered as unsightly and barbarous erections of ignorant times, are now become the theme for general eulogy, and models for imita tion. To the English Catholic there is no class of religious edifices of greater interest than the ancient parish churches of this country. The are admirably suited to the present wants and necessities of the Church, nor is it possible to adopt, con sistently, any other models for the greater portion of our ecclesiastical buildings.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is an impassioned plea to revive the tradition of building churches according to the ancient Catholic architecture of England. The author, a devout Catholic, believes that this architecture is not only beautiful, but also essential to the proper celebration of the Catholic faith. The book examines every aspect of the traditional parish church, from the layout of the building and the placement of the altar to the use of stained glass windows and the importance of a graveyard. The author argues that the church's architecture should reflect the faith it houses and that, through its structure and decor, it should convey the solemn beauty and spiritual significance of Catholic rituals. The book delves into the historical roots of church architecture and the rich symbolism of its elements, while also lamenting the trends of the author's own era that saw a decline in the construction of authentic Catholic churches. The authorââ â¢s work is a powerful argument for the enduring relevance of traditional Catholic architecture, calling on readers to recognize the value of its aesthetic and spiritual significance.
