Sinossi

Excerpt from Draft, Environmental Assessment: Development Concept Plan; Giant Forest, Lodgepole Complex, Sequoia, Kings Canyon National Park

To facilitate appreciation and understanding of the natural environment of the park, the National Park Service has for a period of years allowed the installation of visitor accommodations and concessionaire facilities within the boundaries of the sequoia redwood groves in Giant Forest, and in the environs of the spectacularly glaciated Lodge pole Valley. The existing land use in these areas and the overall land use pattern of the Master Plan study area are presented in Figs. 1-5.

In this book, the author takes a deep dive into the Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks, examining their ecological systems and the impact that increased visitor traffic has had on them, particularly within the Giant Forest and Lodgepole areas. Underlining the importance of preserving the natural environment and balancing it with the needs of visitors, the author provides a comprehensive assessment of environmental impacts stemming from human interaction, including soil erosion, changes in vegetation characteristics, and the effect on wildlife.
