The unity of plan and execution promised in the Elementary is fully carried out in the Complete Arithmetic. The progressive drills, as well as the definitions, analyses, principles, and rules of the smaller work are reproduced in the larger. Manifestly there is one form for all these which is the best, and that having been secured there can be no reason for variation in either book.

For country schools, either the Elementary or Complete Arith metic, with its mental exercises and requirement of original prob lems, will be found sufficient, and there is enough under every branch to establish proper forms of expression and model solutions.

The publishers cannot deny themselves the privilege of express ing their great obligations to the principals of the St. Louis schools and others, whose experience as educators enabled them to render in valuable assistance in the preparation of both works.
