Wie kaum ein anderes so eng begrenztes Gebiet, zeichnet sich die Schweiz durch die Vielgestaltigkeit ihrer wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse besonders aus, was sich auch in der Geschichte und den heutigen Zuständen hinsicht lich der Getreideproduktion und Brotversorgung des Landes widerspiegelt. Dieser Umstand, sowie die hieraus leicht zu erklärende Tatsache, dass das litterarische Material über die Getreideproduktion und Brotversorgung der Schweiz, beziehungsweise deren einzelne Teile, nur sehr zerstreut und bruchstückweise vorgefunden wird, erschwerte die in Angriff genommene Arbeit nicht unwesentlich. Dies umsomehr, da wir das Hauptgewicht weniger auf eine historische Darstellung, als vielmehr auf die, einen be stimmten praktischen Zweck verfolgende Beleuchtung derzur Zeit herrschenden Verhältnisse in Bezug auf die Ge treideproduktion und Brotversorgung der Schweiz legen, um hieraus Anregungen für das weitere erfolgreiche Wirken auf diesem Gebiete herleiten zu können. Der Lücken haftigkeit der vorliegenden Abhandlung wohl bewusst, geben wir uns zufrieden, wenn sie nur dazu beiträgt, das Interesse für die Erhaltung und Hebung des einheimischen Getreidebaues und die Selbstversorgung mit Brot zu wecken und zu fördern.
