Excerpt from A History of Rome: From the Earliest Times to the Death of Domitia
From what has been stated respecting the con tents of this little work, it will be seen that I do not lay claim to much originality. In some cases I have ventured to give my own views and reflec tions, and have not hesitated to state plainly and frankly my opinions respecting the political ten dency of events, and the characters of those who were a curse or a blessing to their country and their times. These observations, however, are necessarily very brief, and in all cases I have honestly stated facts, as recorded by the most trustworthy authorities.
