JOHN R. FITZMIER is Associate Dean of Vanderbilt University Divinity School. An authority on American religious history, his special interests include the separation of Church and State and Jonathan Edwards. He has contributed to several books, and his articles have appeared in journals such as the Religious Studies Review.
