Excerpt from Practical Plane and Solid Geometry: For Elementary Students
In the examples appended to the articles and chapters numerical answers are generally given, with the object of inducing students to acquire the habit of measuring results. A student is not expected to work all the examples, or even to make himself acquainted with every method of proceed ing that may be explained in the text. Some good teachers will make little use of the examples provided, wisely pre ferring their own, or any which they may encourage their students to invent. The special examples relating to work in the laboratory are among the best, and these cannot be given in a general text-book.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a practical and accessible guide to the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Written in the early 20th century, it reflects the growing recognition that mathematics, including geometry, should be taught in relation to real-world applications. The author argues for an experimental approach to the subject, emphasizing the importance of careful drawing, measurement, and the use of tools like rulers, compasses, and protractors. The text emphasizes the connection between geometry, arithmetic, and trigonometry, highlighting how these disciplines can be used to solve problems together. The author demonstrates how practical geometry can be applied to various fields, such as mechanics, engineering, and mapmaking, making it relevant to a wide range of students. Through clear explanations and numerous examples, this book offers a valuable resource for anyone seeking to master the principles of geometry and understand its significance in the broader context of mathematics and practical applications.
