So sagt die Tugend: 'allein des wahren Gluckes Quelle Liegt in deiner eignen Brust' (s. 152) und Faust: 'erquickung hast du nicht gewonnen, Wenn sie dir nicht aus eigner Seele quillt' (v. 215 Auch das freie Versmass, die ungleich wechselnden langen und kurzen Verszeilen des lyrischen Dramas waren fur den Faust formgebend, wie umgekehrt ein Blick auf die Überarbeitung des Singspieles in der Aus gabe letzter Hand (bd. 26) lehrt, dass Wieland seine Verse nach dem Vorbilde des Faust ordnet, wobei er sogar da und dort den Ausdruck nach Goethes Worten modelt; so liest man im 'merkur' (s. 'die Zeit ist kostbar! Willst du sie verlieren?' in den Werken aber steht (26, 169) mit Rücksicht auf Faust (v. 205 f. 'die Zeit ist kostbar, kurz das Leben.'
