For Heraclius, the Son of Hora clins, Governor of Africa, having, at the Requcll of the People of that Province, taken upon him the Title of Emperor, and in Sight of Conflantino/'lc defeated the Fleet, which the Tyrant had armed, and (cut out againli him, the whole City declared in Pa vour of the Conqueror, as the Deliverer and Saviour of the Em. Pie; and with loud Acclamations proclaimed him Emperor. Here upon the Tyrant, dreading, as he well might, the Rage of the Multitude, fled in great Conllcrnation to the Palace; but one Pisa-l czar whofc Wife he had debauched, purfuing him with aparty'of Soldiers, forced the Gates, feized him, and, having llript him of the Imperial Robes, dragged him, in a black Veil, to Heraclmr, who commanded firli his Hands and his Feet, and afterwards his Head, to be cut off, to the unfpeakable'joy of all Ranks and Orders or: Men. His Head was cxpofed on a Pole, to the View and the' In fult of the Populace; and the rcli of his Body delivered up to the Soldiers, who burnt it in the Forum.
