Excerpt from Notes on the Design of an Advanced Course in Alternating Currents for Undergraduates
Of the above types but the Last two are of possible utility for relatively large power purposes. The principle of the Ferranfl. Wright motor is applicable to such.work only, due to the very low power factor inherent in the construction as well as the fact that the torque produced is very small. Similar remarks apply to the eddy current motor. The principle of the shaded pole motor was applied to small single phase induction motors by a well known American manufacturer for some years but was abandoned. The re pulsion motor principle is used in this country only for starting small single phase induction motors in sizes from one fourth to fifty horse power. The characteristics of the motor torque de creasing as the speed increases, similar to the series motor recommend its adoption to railway use. The low power factor usual to such.machines is not in their favor. Herewith are curves of performance of a small sixty cycle repulsion motor. As to the ap plication of this principle to the starting of Single phase ih duction motors see text.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the fundamentals of alternating current transformer technologies. The author traces the historical evolution of transformers from their early development to present-day applications, outlining key principles such as constant potential, constant current, impedance, leakage, and series transformer operation. The book also explores complex theoretical concepts with an emphasis on vector analysis, in order to elucidate topics such as the energy efficiency of transformers. This book is grounded in a clear and lucid writing style that will be appreciated by students and experts alike, and its detailed discussion of transformer theory and its practical applications is ideal for electrical engineers.
