Der starke Falke stiess in leichtem Bogen, nicht allzu schnell, wohl Reiherschnabel und Wasser scheuend, mehrere Male auf den Reiher, der sich bei unserer Annäherung zeitweilig erhob, dann aber, ängstlich schreiend, in seiner Not immer wieder aufs Wasser flüchtete. Er wäre dem Falken jedoch in seiner sichtbaren Er schöpfung schliesslich zum Opfer gefallen, wenn die Nähe unseres Bootes den Peregrinus nicht vertrieben hatte. Der Reiher, ein junges Weibchen, wurde, aus lilafarbenen Wasserblüten blendend weiss sich heraushebend, von uns erlegt.
Zum dritten Male war's ein junges, dunkles Wanderfalken weibchen, das, relativ wenig von der Stelle meiner ersten Begegnung entfernt, genau 1 Tagesfahrt ostlich von Vera Cruz im Meer busen von Mexiko am 16. X. 1908 vor Sonnenuntergang sich müde auf dem Tauwerk zwischen den Masten des Dampfers niederliess.
