The effect of a force imprefs'd on a moveable bod is the mo tion of that body from one place to another. Now orafmuch as the elite} cannot but be proportional to its ennfe, hence Mr Leibnitz (whom the other Gentlemen have followed) contends that the fpace defcribed by a body, in falling, is proportional to the force by which it is impelled during its fall; which fpace being agreed to be as the fquare of the velocity (as being proportional to the velocity and to the time taken together) hence they infer. That the force likewife is as the fquare of the velocity.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of mathematical ideas from the Renaissance to the 19th century. It shifts the focus away from the traditional view of mathematical inquiry as a purely abstract endeavor by demonstrating the practical origins of many mathematical discoveries in scientific pursuits. The author shows how the convergence of new mathematical ideas with scientific observation and technology produced some of the most exciting and important mathematical developments of all time, such as Newton's laws of motion and Maxwell's theory of electromagnetism. More than just a history of mathematics, this book is also a history of ideas, shedding light on the relationship between the evolution of human knowledge and the evolving human story of the natural world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Codice articolo 9780282473877_0
