Sinossi

Excerpt from On the Reparative Process in Human Tendons After Subcutaneous Division for the Cure of Deformities: With an Account of the Appearances Presented in Fifteen Post-Mortem Examinations in the Human Subject; Also a Series of Experiments on Rabbits, and a Résumé of the English and Foreign Literature of the Subject

On this account, and in the hope of adding something to our knowledge of this most interesting physiological process, I have been induced now to publish in a connected form such observations as I have been enabled to make in reference to this subject, by a series of experiments which I performed on sixteen rabbits, in the year 1855, and also by the post mortem examinations, in the recent state, of fifteen cases in the human subject, in which subcutaneous tenotomy had been performed, at periods varying from four days to three years previously - as well as by the examination of several other specimens which had been preserved in Spirits. All the facts, therefore, which have come under my observation in connexion with this subject are here recorded.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the process of tendon repair following surgical division. In the early 1800s, the author performed the first subcutaneous tenotomy for the treatment of club foot, a procedure that became widespread due to its safety and effectiveness. Despite this, the exact process by which tendons heal after being cut remained unclear. The author set out to investigate this process through a series of animal experiments and post-mortem examinations of human subjects. Their findings revealed that the healing process involves the formation of new connective tissue, which gradually develops into new tendon tissue. This new tissue is initially weak but strengthens over time, allowing the tendon to regain its full function. The author's work has significantly advanced our understanding of tendon healing and has helped to improve the outcomes of tendon repair surgery. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Codice articolo 9780282626723_0
