Excerpt from Physics: Advanced Course
The author's aim has been to avoid making the book simply an encyclopedic collection of facts on the one hand, or too purely an abstract and theoretical discus sion of physical theories on the other. The ground covered is that which is usually traversed by students in the more extended courses in Physics in our leading Universities, Colleges, and Technological Institutes. The mathematics required in the derivation of the for mulas is only that with which students taking such courses may be presumed to be already acquainted. Obviously, however, these derivations can be omitted at the discretion of the instructor. To facilitate the use of the book in the classroom most of the illustrative and explanatory matter is printed in a smaller type.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces concepts of physics as a phenomenon of matter, which is defined as that which occupies space. It defines energy as the condition of matter by which it can make changes in other matter, and establishes that both matter and energy are indestructible by human agency. The text explores energy transformations and their effects, including heat, motion, light, sound, electricity, and magnetism. Most chapters start with an abstract discussion of concepts, then apply those concepts to practical examples, such as the principles used in tuning forks or the production of heat from burning wood. The author's aim is to help students understand physical phenomena not only by providing facts and principles, but also by assisting instructors to present these in a way that leads to high-level attainment. The book's insights on energy as a fundamental concept in the universe make it an important tool for expanding the understanding of physics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Codice articolo 9780282627614_0
