In one point of view, indeed, it can exhibit a fairer claim to indulgence than its precursors, as it contains the memoirs of several English ladies. Alike celebrated for their talents and accomplish ments. Nor have eminent characters of the other sex been neglected, as the reader will here find statesmen, orators, and artists who adorn, together with admirals and generals who have fought the battles of, their country.
In the Appendix a few mistakes have been rectified, while some omissions have been at the same time supplied and the Editors trust that, upon the whole, the public characters of 1805 will not prove inferior, either in point of composition Or importance; to those of any for mer year.
