Excerpt from An University Algebra: Comprising I. A Compendious, Yet Complete and Thorough Course in Elementary Algebra, and II. An Advanced Course in Algebra, Sufficiently Extended to Meet the Wants of Our Universities, Colleges, and Schools of Science
The present volume is designed for use in these advanced courses of training. Thus, while it is thought that the former affords as extended a course in Algebra as is expedient for the preparatory schools, it is believed that this will be found to contain all that these higher schools require.
It was deemed necessary to make the work a complete treatise, including the Elements, for purposes of reference, and for reviews, and also in consideration of the fact that our higher institutions have various standards of requirement for admission. In fact, there are few students of Higher Algebra who do not find it necessary to have the Elements at hand for occasional consultation.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book, an expansive trek through real and complex number systems, functions, and equations, is a testament to the intricate knowledge that has shaped our understanding of mathematics. Originally comprised of two separate texts, the author has combined them into one comprehensive textbook designed to see students through high school math and prepare them for college-level courses. Beginning with a detailed examination of polynomials, this text provides a jumping off point from which to build a solid foundation in mathematics. From there, the author delves into quadratic equations, proportions, variation, logarithms, and many more fundamental concepts. By contextualizing these equations within historical frameworks and discussing their development over time, the author sheds light on the intentions of some of mathematics' most brilliant minds. This text would be an excellent resource for any high schooler looking to embark on a deep dive into the complexities of algebra.
