Excerpt from Elements of Analytical Geometry, and the Differential and Integral Calculus
The integral calculus is the converse of the differential, somewhat as the cube root is the converse operation of cubing the root. It is more difficult to find the cube root of a number than it is to cube the root, but still the ene operation is the converse of the other, and the one is not directly obvious from the other.
