The concluding years of his life Durer spent in interesting rela tions with the great men of his time. With Erasmus of Rotterdam he had become acquainted in Holland. In 1526 he made a master piece copper-etching of him. He was also a friend of Melanchton, and occasionally sent proofs of his works to Luther.
