Sinossi

In 2001, the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine convened a multidisciplinary panel charged with assessing how transitions to adulthood in the developing world might be changing and the implications of such changes for the design and improvement of programs and policies affecting young people. It issued its report, Growing Up Global: The Changing Transitions to Adulthood in Developing Countries in December 2004. This companion volume to the report contains ten revised versions of the most significant background papers commissioned by the panel in order to complete their findings and analysis. Topics include comparative evidence on the relationship between marriage and age, education, and assets in six developing countries; assessment of economic returns to investing in youth in developing countries, gender differences in growing up in Pakistan, multilevel modeling of influences on transitions to adulthood in developing countries with special reference to Cameroon, marriage pattern in rural India, education trends in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the impact of demographic transition on schooling in Brazil.
