And firstly, I must express my in debtedness to Sir W. F. Barrett, F not only for having written so excellent an Introduction to the book, but also for having read it in typescript and made several useful suggestions, the majority of which I have been able to carry out. I have to express my thanks to the Editors of The Occult Review, The Quest, and The new-church Magazine for having allowed me to incorporate in this book material afforded by three of my essays published, one in each of their journals, under the titles, The Idealistic Point of View, The Sight of the Soul, and The Criteria of Truth.
