I therefore thought, though conscious my powers were in ferior to the task, yet aware I was favourably situated with regard to sources of information, that I should be undertaking no useless labour in od'ering to the world a small portion of the history of a country, which is evi den tly tending towards a most important partin the great drama of the world.
