Excerpt from Tables of the Moon: Constructed for the Use of the American Ephemeris and Natural Almanac
The formulas of Plana's theory were taken, not from Plana's own work, but from pages lxxiv. Lxxx. Of the Introduction to the Reduction of the Observations of the Moon, made at the Royal Observatory, at Greenwich, from 1750 to 1830.
These formulas were adopted because they claimed to be corrected by Plana himself; and, what is of more importance, because they had been compared with observation, and formed the basis of Airy's corrections of the elements of the Moon.
