Sinossi
Information Systems or Organisational Informatics is the bridging discipline interested in the application of information, information systems and information technology in organisations. The text provides an essential introduction to informatics and its application within organisations. The aim has been to present an integrated and holistic account of the field founded in strong theory but with a practical emphasis. Informatics is not a series of interesting but independent technological issues; it is a seamless web of computing applications in organisations.
The use of precise terminology within the book allows the interconnected nature of organisational informatics to be discussed without confusion. In addition, the book provides a strong theoretical foundation to the topics whilst maintaining a definite practical emphasis. A fundamental knowledge of theory makes for clear identification of good practice, and the reader will come away not only with a solid grounding in what informatics comprises, but also how it works, and where and why it is applied in organisations.
