Wortley was not given to a Norman at the Con quest, but was allowed to be held of the king by Elric, who, with Ulsi, another Saxon, was joint owner in the time of the Confessor. This Elric held the larger wasted portion of Wortley, which became included with Tankersley; whilst the lesser portion passed to the honour of Skipton.
