Los conquistadores del Perú siguieron con una regulari dad invariable esta práctica de hacer largos 'procesos i de envolver todos sus procedimientos en las fórmulas legales. El inca Atahualpa, inhumana e inicuamente sacrificado por los invasores de su imperio, fué sometido a un proce so en que se salvaron las apariencias legales, pero en que se cometieron las mas abominables injusticias. Poco mas tarde, durante las primeras guerras civiles de los conquis tadores, Pizarro i Almagro, desde sus respectivos campa mentos, se procesaron recíprocamente, ya para justificar su conducta ante el rei, ya para tener adelantada la prueba contra su contrario a fin de terminar el juicio despues de la victoria que esperaba cada cual. Vencido i prisionero, Almagro, fué, en efectº, ¿sometido a juicio; 1 el espediente que le formó su feliz rival, formaba un cuerpo de...autos que, ((se hizo tan alto como hasta la cintura de un hombre, dice un testigo de vista, el caballero don Alonso Enriquen de Guzman, que tomó parte en esos sucesos.
Pedro de Valdivia, el famoso conquistador de Chile, fué tambien sometido a uno de esos procesos que preparaban los odios la envidia de sus contemporáneos. De ese *pro ceso casi no ha quedado huella alguna en la historia, to das las relaciones, así como 'los documentos publicados o conocidos hasta ahora, dejan apenas traslucir que la con dueta de ese caudillo fué pezquizada por uno de los gober nádores del Perú.
